happy new year!!!!

it's the year of the dog... yes, i know, mickey's a rat but the pic looks cool.

i went to chinatown (in NYC) today to watch the festivities.  it was PACKED!!!  i was there last year and there weren't nearly as many people back then... what the hell happened?  suddenly there were a ton of tourists today.   it also rained.  i went with 2 friends i've known for years.  it was fun.  one of them always caught the women's eyes, and he still does.  he's got a great personality to go along with it, so... what the hell's my problem???  i must be the ugly friend the good looking friend hangs with.  anyway, we sat and had lunch in a restaurant and chatted.  we all used to life guard together.

anyway, i've posted pics in the photo gallery.  check it out.  you'll see all the people and half of them seemed like they were tourists... damn tourists...

January 26, 2006

don't know if any of you check out my links section, but i've posted a section that will help you find discount codes to shopping sites on the web, or even coupons to stores.

I THINK I'M INJURED!!!  my inner calf and the outer part of my knee are killing me.  i think it's the sneakers.  i've been running more intensely and trying to add more mileage and i guess if the sneakers are off with my running, that may happen.  i have to make a doctor's appt ASAP.  i'm just gonna heat the hell out of my leg this weekend.

i just have to see the matador.  it looks too hilarious to pass up.  although i haven't seen too many pierce brosnan movies, i think he's a good actor and seems like a pretty cool person, so why not.

i had to drop off my x-rays to a doc at the hosp for special surgery, and it was a hike and a half from the subway station.   holy crap!!!  why the hell are they between york ave and the fdr drive???  it took me over 20 minutes (probably 24 minutes) just to walk there then another 24 to walk back!   i'm just hoping for some good news... bad calf, bad arm... what the hell is going on with this body of mine???

yes, this is a pretty lame-ass post, but it's the best i can do... unlike other people who are in my links section who don't update for over a week, and i think they're just wasting precious internet space.

January 22, 2006

so today was a very eventful day... i was supposed to go downtown to meet my family for dinner around 6pm.  of course at 5pm my mom calls me bitching cuz i hadn't left my apartment yet and tells me to hurry up.  so i leave and i just catch the subway and i say to myself... cool i caught it and i'll be right on time (sundays there's less service so it would have been a long wait).  whaddaya know... good old murphy decided to give me a visit and i got on a train with a psycho person who starts harassing and attacking people.  of course someone pulled the emergency brake, whether it was the attacker or passanger, dunno.

so here's what happened... the subway lurched to a stand still and having taken the subway my entire life (literally) i know someone pulled the emergency brake.  about five minutes later a whole wave of people come rushing into the subway car i'm in.  sitting across from me this guy asks why so many people are coming in here.  turns out there's some psycho harassing people.  later another guy comes rushing in and the psycho is now attacking people with something.   turns out the guy sitting across from me was an off-duty police officer.  he goes into the subway car and tackles the person.  i guess he told someone to come into the subway car i'm in to get help.  i couldn't believe what didn't happen... i was the only guy who went in there to help.  meanwhile there were other guys in there that were bigger and looked stronger than i am (not to mention i've got a damn gimpy arm).  what a bunch of fuckin' cowards.  i really couldn't believe it.

anyway, i guess the guys who were still in the subway car with the psycho helped the cop out and they really didn't need me in the end.  i still can't believe what a bunch of fuckin whimps were in there though.

i ended up being 25 minutes late, but dinner was good.

January 21, 2006

yesterday the running team i'm on had a team dinner.   it was at a turkish restaurant and the food was surprisingly good.  i had never had turkish food before, but the stuff i had wasn't much different than regular food i usually get at regular restaurants.  although i guess i picked the safe food (grilled chicken chops).

while i was leaving my apartment on my way to the subway station for the dinner, i realized i forgot my cell phone and headed back to my building.  while i was walking into the building, someone (who was wearing glasses) was leaving, and that person somehow walked into the narrow part of the door (the door was open).  when i say walked into the door, this dude walked into the door hard to where the door vibrated and one of his lenses popped out of his glasses.  this is a big door.  it sounded like it hurt and i saw the face he made after he walked into it.  he was ok cuz he didn't fall and wasn't bleeding, but i just walked past him cuz i was on the verge of cracking up (yes, i guess i'm just an evil person, but as i'm writing this, i'm laughing).   i also don't recall ever having seen him in my building and hopefully he doesn't remember who i am if he does live here.

January 19, 2006

i've been noticing a number of stores (from well established retail companies) in my area closing down recently.  they include hollywood video, blimpe's, and eddie bauer.  should there be some sort of concern for this?  can it be that the rent is so high that these stores had to close?  if that's the case, who'll be able to afford to rent here?  only high-end retailers like barney's, zales, and coach, all of whom have opened up stores in the area recently.  i've never gone into barney's or zales, but i've walked into coach.  which leads me to my next point.  out of those 3 stores i've mentioned, i've only walked into 1 of them.  that's cuz i know i probably wouldn't be able to afford anything in any of the other 2, let alone coach... meaning, ONLY THE RICH PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO SHOP IN THE AREA!!!!!  what about us little people who happen to live here who spend all our money trying to stay in this neighborhood?????

should this have gone into my "articles and opinions" section?   well, i just updated it today (so go there and check out what i posted - it's definitely worth reading) so i'm gonna leave this one here so my blog looks better.

January 16, 2006

the 3 day weekend came and went.   i'm still trying to get rid of this damn cough.  it's almost gone i think.  the weather's been really crappy, so i just pretty much hung out at home and did nothing except to go out every now and then.  the colts lost (crap), but then, so did the patriots (HA!).  i can have a good superbowl now that i know the patriots won't be there.  i couldn't care less who won or lost now.

anyway, i wanted to post this video called matrix ping pong

it's from some japanese show i think. it's extremely well choreographed... it's hilarious.  i wish i had a higher quality version of it, but this is the best i could do.  check it out... it's worth it.  once i get my downloads section up and running, it'll definitely be there.

January 12, 2006

i went running today!!! we did the 6 mile loop.  we finished with a 9 minute pace, but i think in the end it was faster than 9 minute pace - everyone suddenly sped up, and sped up again at cat hill.  it was good.  i hadn't run in a week and my body is still weak from fighting off the cold (i've developed a pretty gut wrenching cough now), so it was pretty good all things considered.  if it weren't so nice out i wouldn't have gone, but it's supposed to be crappy all weekend and if it is i'm not gonna run.   monday's supposed to be nice and i'm off, so maybe an easy run then durning the day.

just to follow up with yesterday's posting on buckley's.  i failed to mention, there's a massive after-taste to the buckley's blue.  it's the decongestant piece where the fumes are just coming back up after you swallowed it.  you feel it coming out of your mouth and your nostrils.  it lasts a couple of minutes (i didn't use a chaser afterwards).  also, buckley's blue tastes worse than buckley's red.  red is nothing compared to blue.  i'm taking red now for my cough.  it seems to be helping.  this is much better than nyquil... definitely.

January 11, 2006

i've still got my cold.  i've also just discovered a new cough and cold relief otc medicine called buckley's.  it comes in 2 forms, the cough suppressant and the cough and cold decongestant (DM).  i bought both, but currently taking (today is the first day) the DM version.  it is probably one of the most obnoxiously foul tasting things you will ever taste.  the box even says "it tastes awful. and it works."  if the box says it tastes awful, you can expect it to taste awful.
if you wanna read the story, just click on the pic and you can read for yourself.  otherwise, here are pics of both boxes of buckley's - buckley's red and buckley's blue.  red is for cough and blue is for cough and cold.

at least i was prepared for the foul taste.  you know what though???  it actually does work.  my sinuses opened up.  i may actually be able to sleep tonite.  it's also non-drowsy.  it works better than nyquil!!!

i've also started playing sudoku.  it's really addicting.  i found a site that lets you play over the web, but it also helps you cheat (makes it too easy then).  it's alot of fun though, so if you're bored at work, click on the sudoku pic below and you'll be taken there, and you can learn the rules there also.  it'll also be posted in my links section.  i hope you've browsed thru my links section so you can see some of the really cool sites i've posted there.  it's well worth your time.

here's what sudoku looks like...

January 9, 2006

it went up to 60 degrees F today and i didn't run.   why you ask???  why thank you for asking... cuz i'm trying to get over a cold!!!  i think i got it from last wednesday's team workout.  we were at riverside park doing sort of sprint workouts and i guess i was breathing thru my mouth too much and woke up with a sore throat that nite.  that was bad.

it was so beautiful outside today!  i wanted to go running!!!  but no, i decided to try and get over my cold for this wednesday's team workout.  i just stayed home and organized my apartment (still trying to organize and clean up).  looking at the weather forecast, it's supposed to frickin' RAIN on wednesday too and i've just developed a cough today.   decisions decisions... should i run or not.  it's supposed to rain on saturday also (as well as windy and colder).  if it's not too rainy i may run on wednesday... just gotta bundle up or something.

so i got my furniture on friday at 9am on the dot.   i didn't finish putting the furniture together until 6:30pm... frickin' ikea furniture.   if i had one person helping me it would have been a fraction of the time.  the hardest part was lining up the holes to screw everything in!  i was drenched in sweat.  the damn file cabinet took almost 4 hours to put together.  it looks damn nice though (although it's chipped here and there from their poor packing skills).  everything is finally done though (except the lite fixtures).

today's only monday... it was a long day.  tomorrow's only tuesday.  hope it goes faster.  i guess that's what i get for taking so much time off for the holidays.

i hope you people read my articles and opinions section!

January 4, 2006

so i finally finished my furniture shopping... nothing matches.   i knew that was gonna happen.  i even had my friend's wife helping me out.  i did my best.  i finished everything off at ikea.  one stop furniture shopping.  can't ask for more.

i don't know why my sentences are so short and abrupt.   maybe it's cuz i'm tired.  my sleeping is screwed up from my time off.

i've worked out every single day for the last 10 days.    my body is sore and tired.  maybe i'll take tomorrow off... maybe not.  dunno.

oh, i lied.   i still need lite fixtures (i have lite bulbs dangling from my ceiling - not a good look).   i think that's it.  i hope that's it.

January 1, 2006

so new year's eve was pretty good this year.   it was spent with some people on my running team.  there were only 10 people - which included 2 parents, which actually added to the entertainment (cuz their daughters were talking about getting drunk and this and that).  that's the perfect size gathering as far as i'm concerned.  there was good / entertaining conversations going on and no one had to scream and feel crammed in.

i've never had a new year's resolution in the past, and was wondering if i should try and make one... if i did, it would be (and this list may get edited now and then, and may even get deleted):

- be more patient, especially when it comes with people and explaining things - i always find myself saying to people: WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND??!? (i would make an AWFUL teacher).
- workout more - if you saw the garfield strip on the homepage, that's me (i did workout today though).
- i wanna find something different to do.  i've been kinda bored lately.  i wanna do something fun, something i can't stop talking to my friends about.  it's been awhile since i've done something like that.  the last time i did something like that was scuba diving, which i will never forget for the rest of my life, especially the first time i went underwater.   it's absolutely the most amazing thing and i wish i could do that everyday.  i've also gone skydiving, but that was just one time, and it was not cheap and was over too quickly.  hmmm...

that's it for now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
